Individuals who are required to obtain a baton permit must be instructed in the format described in Section 7585.9(a) of the Business and Professions Code.  The course of training in the carrying and usage of the baton, the satisfactory completion of which shall be required of applicants who wish to obtain a baton permit, shall be in the format prescribed by the Department of Consumer Affairs as delineated in the bureau’s “Baton Training Manual.” The course of training contained in the manual shall include, but not be limited to, the following subjects:\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003col\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eMoral and legal aspects of baton usage\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eUse of force\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eBaton familiarization and uses\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eFirst aid for baton injuries\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eFundamentals of baton handling\n\u003cul\u003e\n\u003cli\u003e(A) Stances and grips\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003e(B) Target areas\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003e(C) Defensive techniques\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003e(D) Control techniques\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003e(E) Arrest and control techniques\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003c\/ul\u003e\n\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eExamination of the subject matter as taught in the classroom.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003c\/ol\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eTo be certified to use and carry a baton, students MUST complete a minimum of 8 hours of instruction (Business \u0026amp; Professions Code Section 7585.13). Students must also pass a written examination.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch3\u003eThose eligible to take the training course are:\u003c\/h3\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e1.
