The NRA Personal Protection In The Home (PPITH) course is an intensive 8-hour program designed to bridge the gap between basic target shooting and real-world home defense. Built upon a foundation of practical safety, this course equips responsible gun owners with the tools necessary to prevent, survive, and legally navigate a home invasion or violent encounter.
Prerequisite

NRA Basic Pistol Certification or proven intermediate shooting ability via pre-course evaluation
Course Objective

By the end of this 8-hour course, students will be able to:

  1. Master Defensive Shooting Fundamentals: Learn how to balance speed and accuracy, utilizing "defensive accuracy" concepts like flash sight picture and point shooting at close-quarters distances.
  2. Execute Home Defense Strategies: Evaluate home layout vulnerabilities, plan defensive safe rooms, establish emergency communication protocols, and make quick, sound decisions during a intrusion.
  3. Navigate Self-Defense & Castle Doctrine Laws: Understand the legal thresholds for deadly force, law-abiding self-defense rights, and how to interact with law enforcement during the critical moments after an incident.
  4. Utilize Cover & Alternative Positions: Safely engage targets from behind structural cover and practice shooting from real-world defensive positions.
  5. Manage High-Stress Scenarios: Build the mindset required to clear firearm stoppages quickly, manage extreme physiological stress responses, and avoid emotional decision-making in high-threat situations.

Cancellation or reschedule is permitted 72 hrs ahead of class with a full refund available (5-10 business days). There are no refunds if less than 72 hrs notification is given by the student or no shows. Cancellation must be submitted via email; we do not accept phone cancellations.
